Why a Cooking Blog?

The first time I moved out on my own I was 19. At that point my experience cooking was a combination of frozen food, hamburgers, and cookies that my friends threatened to build a fallout shelter out of. I had very little money and mostly lived off whatever ground meat was on sale, jarred tomato sauce, and pasta. It wasn't a good way to live. This lasted about 3 months before I moved back home.

About 2 months later I was back on my feet and ready to try again. This time I refused to live that way. I'm not going to say that I didn't eat jarred tomato sauce, hamburger helper, and plenty of frozen food, but I also learned to cook. My boyfriend was used to eating better than that, and I wanted to eat better than that. Neither of us had the money to eat out all the time so learning to cook it was.

In the past 17 years since then I've gone from the girl with cookies you could build a fallout shelter from to the girl that everyone wants to cook for them. It's not been an easy road. I've made plenty of turkeys that came out of the oven still raw, and casseroles that were just inedible. Even now with all the experience I have I'll sometimes try something new and we'll end up having to throw it away and order takeout. I have however learned to minimize those times and that is the knowledge I want to share on this blog. I want to help people understand what they are doing so that they can cook more effectively.
